Nov28Project Portfolio Management: The QuestPosted at 09:52 in Project Management

I know, it's been a long time since I did not post here. While I'm managing some of the key projects at Interoute, I'm also looking for the appropriate Project Portfolio Management (PPM) software tool to support the Program Management Office (PMO) in reporting effectively to the organization, manage effectively our resources (dedicated and shared), etc. Basically, I'm looking for a tool that is easy to use, but goes beyond what a typical Microsoft Project can offer, especially in terms of portfolio dashboard views; resource management (not only allocation); risk register; etc.

And while I was starting looking at what's available on the market, I've been invited by Gartner to attend their Project & Portfolio Management Summit 2007 next week in Prague: That's what I call a very fortunate opportunity, and a perfect timing. I will be more than happy to meet some of the vendors there, like Asta Development, Atlantic Global, AtTask, Augeo, eProject, Innotas, Microsoft (let's have a look at the new features of MS-Project 2007), Planisware, PlanView, Primavera, The Gensight Group. I'll do one post per product that really stroke me, and will ask for your help to compare pros and cons.

Nov04International Project Management DayPosted at 11:17 in Project Management

With all the work going on, I missed the opportunity to blog about International Project Management Day, which was November the 1st. The objective of this event was to encourage project based organizations worldwide or organizations who utilize project management methodologies to schedule some type of recognition event within their organizations or coordinated locally with others to truly demonstrate appreciation for the achievements of project managers and their teams. I believe that next year, Interoute's PMO will be mature enough to fully support this initiative, and give our fellow Project Managers the recognition and acknowledgement they deserve.
