For the launch of the 2010 Ford Mustang, the guys at Ford prepared a fantastic configurator, by yourself, or in community. The options are absolutely insane, unrivaled by any configuration tool I have ever seen, mixing stock and aftermarket parts, and the result can be stunning (like it or not). On Friday, the Emirates Mustang Club organized a trip to visit the mountains of Kalba. We gathered 29 Mustangs (including 3 Shelbys) for an extraordinary ride on a great road (Hatta Road, through Sharjah, up in the mountains, almost to the coast of Fujairah, and back). Our photographer posted a couple of very nice pictures on Picasa. Most of the guys then joined the Dubai Autodrome to watch the Toyo 24h race, where the belgium team VDS Racing invited them on the pit to watch their Mustang FR 500S.
When I was young, I used to read the Nitro mag, full of american muscle cars, rods and customs, and my most favorite has always been the Ford Mustang, and in the whole mustang world, one mythic name always stood out of the crowd: Carroll Shelby, who drove his first quarter-mile drag race in January 1952, was named "Driver of the Year" in march 1957, and created the Cobra® brand in February 1962, teaming up with Ford, resulting in the first series of high performance Mustangs fastbacks in 1964. Since August 2003, the Mustang Shelby GT500 is manufactured by Ford SVT with guidance from Shelby Autos.
One of the questions I asked myself when I landed in Dubai last July was regarding the cars to buy here. It was a real question, since we did not own any car as we lived in the very center of Prague, Czech Republic, and the public transport network was absolutely great. The choice of a Mercury Mountaineer for my wife was easy to make given the parameters, but for mine, it was a bit more tricky. After weeks of pondering, I finally ordered my dream car, and had to wait a couple of more months to get it. I joined the Dubai Mustang Club where I found a lot of enthusiasts to share with, and finally, on the 4th of December 2008, at 6PM, I received the keys of my new ride from my prefered Ford advisor (thanks a lot Firoz, you're the man). I'm so happy.
